Creating sets for your animatronic performers will make heavy use of your artistic, craft, and woodworking skills, not to mention a healthy dose of imagination. In our experience, we found it worked better to have the adults craft a sturdy wooden platform that the kids could then build upon. We like to leave about 4” under our stages to support wiring and all of the electronics.
The “Welvis” set is a pastoral scene, with a large rock outcropping. The grass is simulated by a piece of artificial grass carpeting, decorated with artificial flowers. The rock was constructed by laying plaster cloth on a wire frame. It was than spray painted with textured rock paint.
